Medicross

According to the legal opinion obtained by DENTASA from Advocate Terblanche, it is not illegal to pay an administration fee to an administration body like Medicross / Netcare. DENTASA’s lawyer, Mr. Le Grange, perceived the administration agreement as proposed by Medicross of an administration fee no more than 5% inclusive of VAT, as fair.

DENTASA is in no way suggesting that technicians must sign this agreement, but is merely relaying the findings of the legal opinions obtained regarding this matter. Each laboratory owner must decide the course of his or her actions individually.

Unfortunately we have received no feedback regarding this matter from the SADTC.

Leave for technicians

*correction

The Basic Conditions of Employment Act has been amended and it has been brought to our attention that the annual days of leave must be adjusted on most contracts and also the Contract issued by DENTASA to members for dental technician employees. (The Basic Conditions of Employment Act supersedes the Act nr 19 of 1979 – Act on Dental technology)

“The Basic Conditions of Employment Act applies to all employers and workers, but not members of the -

  • National Defence Force,
  • National Intelligence Agency, or
  • South African Secret Service; or
  • unpaid volunteers working for charity.

(2) An employer must grant an employee at least—

(a) * 21 consecutive days’ annual leave on full remuneration in respect of each annual leave cycle; or

(b) by agreement, one day of annual leave on full remuneration for every 17 days

on which the employee worked or was entitled to be paid;

(c) by agreement, one hour of annual leave on full remuneration for every 17

hours on which the employee worked or was entitled to be paid.”

*(this means that you count the weekends, but excludes the first  weekend of the leave cycle, i.e. you get renumiration for 15 working days.)

SMS Alerts

Auto opt-out system for SMS alerts.

When someone replies with an opt-out message (STOP, OPT-OUT or similar opt out message), the SMS gateway automatically adds their number to a blacklist that is linked to the DENTASA account. Once a number has been added to this blacklist, the gateway will not send any further messages to that number, if the message originates from the DENTASA account.

If you want to have your number removed from the blacklist please contact WinSMS on 0861 WINSMS (0861 94 67 67) during office hours Mon-Fri 08:30-17:00.

We hope to bring you the political news, activities and legislation affecting dental technologist as well as DENTASA matters and events.

Firstly, it is important to explain that the Dental Technician’s Council (SADTC) is a statutory body that falls under the Department of Health.  It is a regulatory body, which is in place to regulate the dental technology industry in the interest of the public.

DENTASA is not a regulatory body. It is an association for members to join where relevant matters affecting the profession can be discussed and a common standpoint can be achieved and pushed for by the association to the relevant regulatory body.

The stronger the association is in members, the better DENTASA can work towards advancing the profession to a level where the public can respect and admire the work of dental technologists.
